RE: new tires

PS from Dr Quick,
Also a bigger diameter tire will effect your towing capacity, as it will reduce the gear ratio.

RE: new tires

If the outer diameter of the tire is not the same as what you have now, it will goof up your speedometer and odometer too. That will most likely require a change to the transmission sending unit.

RE: tire inflation pressure

Tire pressure rating on tire is if you are using tire at maximum rated load. Running pressure to high will cause tire to wear in center, and running to low will cause tire to wear at sides. Same information applies to tow vehicle.
My previous 5th wheel had tires rated for 55 PSI. OWNERS manual recomended 35 PSI. I used that pressure and had the trailer for 5 years and when I sold it the original tires were on it, and in perfect condition.

RE: Do Rotochoks offer real extra benefits??

I have often questioned the use of chocks for 5th wheels. When you have the landing gear down, each one is suporting prabably 1000 pounds or more. I doubt if you put a chain on the frame of the trailer that you could even move the unitby pulling it with your truck. The only time I have ever use chocks is when the site is sloped, and it is only to prevent a problem while hitching or un hitching. I have the plastic ones form Wal-Mart. Have had four 5th wheels and towed them for 15 years maybe 50,000 and never had a problem.

RE: Drain plug

I had the same problem, the end of the plug broke off and nothing to grab on to.
I used a hack saw blade and made cuts at 1/4 points on two sides. Then used a pick or a small screw driver to break out small section, the rest came out easy. Just do not saw too deep and mess up threads.
Installed a "Pex" 1/2 inch valve that I got from Lowes and used silicone to ensure no leaks. Take off valve handle and used a combination box/open end wrench by putting it straight on valve as clearance is limited, and stick a screw driver in the box end to tighten.
Mine works fine and no more drain plug problems.

RE: Awning install

I helped my neighbor do one a few years ago. It is a three person job as you need two to hold the awning arms and one to guide it in the slot to reinstall.
Instead of unwinding the spring, we un-wrapped the old awning and rewrapped the new. Saved the spring issue and it works perfect.
You will also need a pop rivet gun to reinstall end cap.

RE: Sticky Dump Valves

On an older trailer with the same problem I found out that it was the shaft of the valve that caused them to stick. I had tried all kinds of different lubricants on the seal and valve, but they did not help. I got some plumbers "water proof grease" and put it on the shaft and presto, they worked fine after that.

Roof repair of old leak

I purchased a used trailer and there is an old roof leak in the corner and the boards are damaged.
I want to peel back the rubber roof to replace the damaged boards, and re-install the rubber.
Need suggestions on how to peel back rubber and seperate it from roof with out damageing rubber, so that it can be reinstalled.
